NATURE'S OWN ANTI-INFLAMMATORY! The Devil's Claw plant grows in Southern and

Eastern Africa, and has been credited with having great success in dealing with many illnesses,

particularly with arthritis and artero-sclerosis.

Devils Claw has been clinically tested particularly in Germany, where the plant has achieved

particular fame. Prof. Dr.B.Zorn, for instance, writing in the "Zeitschrift fur

Rheumaforschung", stated that Devil's Claw had a prolonged beneficial influence on tissue

swelling and inflammations, leading to a return to normal conditions, without the impediment

OTHER ILLNESSES In addition to arthritis / rheumatism, it is reported that a long list of

illnesses can be improved and healed by the treatment of Devil's Claw. The recommendations

include the following:- rheumatism, lumbago, neuralgia, bladder diseases, stomach/intestinal

CONSTITUENTS: 1) iridoid glycosides, including harpagide, harpagoside and

procumbide.

2) Flavenoids, mainly kaempferol and luteolin glycosides.

3) Phenolic acids; chlorogenic and cinnamic acid, harpoagoquinine.

4) Miscellaneous; triterpenes, oleanolic acid and ursolic acid

derivatives and esters, sugars (especially stachyose).

GENERAL USES: Anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, analgesic,

sedative. Methanolic extracts have shown in vivo anti-inflammatory activity in

the rat-paw oedema test, analgesic effects comparable to that of

phenylbutazone in rabbits, and antiphlogistic effects in a variety of tests. The

extracts also cause a reduction in arterial blood pressure in rats, a decrease in

heart rate in rabbits, and a protective effect against arrythmias caused by
